How to make game cut-ups from a game captured with a digital video camera.

HD camera should work in the same way.  We are still investigating.

By connecting your camera to your PC (or Mac) with the firewire cable, you can use Windows Media (or iMovie) to capture your game onto your disc storage (hard drive). Once the video is captured it will be in WMV format on the PC (MOV or MPEG format on the Mac).  Follow the instructions for Window Movie Maker from Microsoft (current link which worked at the time of this writing or the corresponding iMove how to link from Apple, Inc).

The main points:

1.      Capture your game from your camera to the PC making sure that “Video Clips” is enabled.

On the Import File dialog box, select the Create clips for video files check box (it is selected by default). Click your video file, and then click Import.

2.      Once the video is in MovieMaker, drag the clips you want to save to the Time Line.  For example, drag all the defensive plays to the Time Line to use as a coaching tool for the Defense.  You may use the Trim feature to split a clip into two clips to help isolate a player.  That is all explained in the tutorial.

3.      Finally save the new movie by selecting 3. Finish Movie

Once you have your game divided into clips and saved as a movie, you can upload that file to AthletiShare for download by your staff, or you can burn DVDs for distribution to your staff.

While Microsoft’s documentation and phone support are helpful, if you are very new to video editing, it would be useful to contact your own multi-media department to locate an experienced person to guide you through these steps.
